High-flow nasal cannula reduces treatment failure risk compared to conventional oxygen therapy in pediatric acute respiratory failure

In children with acute respiratory failure, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) significantly lowers the risk of treatment failure compared to conventional oxygen therapy (OR: 0.509, 95% CI: 0.42-0.61). However, HFNC does not significantly differ from CPAP in intubation rates or hospital mortality, and may be associated with a non-significant increase in treatment failure versus CPAP.
