Longer sleep duration and shorter wake bouts are associated with more favorable adipokine profiles in older adults

In older adults from the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging, longer average wake bout length was cross-sectionally associated with lower adiponectin and leptin levels. Longitudinally, longer total sleep time predicted increases in adiponectin, while short sleep duration (<6h) predicted declines. Associations were stronger in females and those with lower central obesity.
