In a cross-sectional study of 340 newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients, a U-shaped association was found between weekday sleep duration and fasting blood glucose, with optimal sleep around 6.92 hours. Moderate- to high-intensity physical activity was associated with significantly lower fasting blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin, and may partially offset adverse glycemic effects of insufficient sleep.
