Endovenous ablation with concomitant phlebectomy improves sleep quality in patients with chronic venous disease
In a prospective observational study of 77 patients with lower extremity CVD, endovenous ablation (frequently combined with phlebectomy) was associated with significant improvement in sleep quality at 1-month follow-up. The median PSQI score decreased from 6 to 5 (P < .001), and the proportion of patients with poor sleep quality (PSQI > 5) declined from 66.2% to 41.6%.

Limitations
- โ Observational design with no control group
- โ Short follow-up period (1 month) limiting assessment of durability
- โ Lack of objective sleep measures (e.g., actigraphy or polysomnography)
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the PSQI score threshold for poor sleep quality?โผ
A PSQI score greater than 5 indicates poor sleep quality.
Which components of sleep quality improved after the procedure?โผ
Significant improvements were observed in subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep duration, sleep disturbances, and daytime dysfunction, but not in habitual sleep efficiency or use of sleep medication.
How many patients were included in this study?โผ
The study included 77 patients with lower extremity chronic venous disease.
What were the main symptoms of CVD that might affect sleep?โผ
Symptoms included leg pain, heaviness, edema, and nocturnal cramps, which often worsen at night.
