Neiyanggong reduces cancer-related fatigue and improves sleep quality in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
A randomized controlled trial of 72 breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy found that a staged progressive dynamic-static Neiyanggong intervention significantly reduced cancer-related fatigue (PFS-R total score interaction effect F=94.810, P<0.001, η²=0.807) and improved sleep quality (PSQI total score interaction effect Wald χ²=292.975, P<0.001) compared to routine care. After three chemotherapy cycles, fatigue scores were significantly lower in the Neiyanggong group (P<0.05), and notable improvements were seen in sleep latency, sleep efficiency, and daytime dysfunction (P<0.001).

Limitations
- ⚠Single-center study with relatively small sample size (n=72)
- ⚠No blinding of participants or practitioners due to the nature of the intervention
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Neiyanggong?▼
Neiyanggong is a mind-body exercise combining dynamic and static movements, adapted here as a staged progressive intervention for breast cancer patients.
How was sleep quality measured in this study?▼
Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), which evaluates components like sleep latency, sleep efficiency, and daytime dysfunction.
Did the Neiyanggong group experience any side effects?▼
No adverse events occurred in the Neiyanggong group, and adherence to the intervention was high.
Is this intervention suitable for all breast cancer patients?▼
The study focused on patients undergoing chemotherapy, and the intervention was tailored to disease-specific characteristics. Generalizability may be limited by the single-center design and small sample size.
