Sex-specific associations exist between work-related factors, sleep problems, and metabolic syndrome in Taiwanese workers, with sleep disturbances and sleep latency predicting metabolic syndrome in men, and shift work predicting metabolic syndrome in women.
In a cross-sectional study of 348 Taiwanese workers, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 26.4%, higher in men (33.3%) than in women (19.3%). Among men, sleep disturbances and sleep latency were significant predictors of metabolic syndrome, while among women, shift work and body mass index were associated with metabolic syndrome.
